| HOME |
We submitted this report during EECS466. In this project we were asked to compile the requirements for a general purpose computer architecture that fits in with contemporary architecture designs and addresses most salient features of today's general purpose computer users. Accordingly we have prepared this report describing our efforts. While doing our study we came across many modern computer architecture paradigms as well as the changing focus of general purpose computer user towards multimedia rather than traditional applications. Because of fundamental limitations on time, we cannot comment on the relative pro's and con's of the different computer architecture paradigms and leave it to the reader to choose the one that best fits the scenario. We will still describve briefly on what is current, but finally we will go with only one architecture, Simultaneous Multithreading, and discuss the issues that need to be solved for extending the basic DLX architecture that we have studied in class to include SMT-like funtionality.
